The junction of Scott Street and South Street will reopen on Monday, 23rd February after the Scott Street fire in Perth City Centre on the 14th June, 2025.
One man died, with a further two injured, as 55 households had to be rehoused after damage to the building required the fire-damaged tenement to be demolished.
A single lane will open initally to allow footway works to be completed. Footway works will commence once the scaffolding is removed, with further work to reinstate the junction at Princes Street leading to South Street commencing on Monday, 2nd March. A road closure will be required while this work is undertaken. Perth & Kinross Council have confirmed they plan to resurface the carriageway between Canal Street and South Street at the same time.
Perth and Kinross Council leader Councillor Eric Drysdale said: “The demolition and associated works have been an extremely long and complicated process.
“I’d like to thank residents, businesses and visitors to Perth city centre for their patience while these have been completed.
“Our staff and contractors have worked extremely hard to re-open the road, particularly as they have also had to contend with extremely poor weather over recent weeks and I would like to thank them for all their efforts.”
Councillor Drysdale added: “The fire last June had a devastating effect and our thoughts continue to be with those who lost a loved one, and those whose homes and businesses were affected. Fires of this magnitude are, fortunately, extremely rare but the consequences can last for an extremely long time.
“We have worked hard to complete the demolition and get the area re-opened as soon as possible.”
